Springfield Armory XD-E 3.3" 9mm DA/SA Pistol – Hammer-Fired, Ambidextrous Controls, Fiber-Optic Front Sight
The XD-E is the only hammer-fired model in Springfield Armory’s XD family, built by HS Produkt in Croatia and imported to Geneseo, Illinois. This 3.3" barrel variant combines a slim single-stack profile with a double-action/single-action trigger, a Low-Effort Slide that requires roughly 27 % less racking force, and fully ambidextrous controls. Discontinued around 2021, it offers a feature set that stands out among compact carry pistols.

The XD-E is chambered in 9 mm Luger and uses a hammer-forged 3.3" barrel for reliable accuracy and long service life. Its Melonite-treated slide resists corrosion while front and rear serrations provide a positive grip during press checks or administrative handling.
An external hammer paired with a DA/SA trigger allows second-strike capability and a consistent single-action follow-up shot. The ambidextrous thumb safety also functions as a decocker, ensuring the pistol can be carried cocked-and-locked or decocked according to user preference.
Springfield’s Low-Effort Slide geometry reduces racking force by approximately 27 %, a tangible benefit for shooters who value easier slide manipulation. A loaded chamber viewport offers an at-a-glance status check without retracting the slide.
Ergonomics include the textured Grip Zone polymer frame and an ambidextrous push-button magazine release. Sighting is quick thanks to a red fiber-optic front sight paired with a white-dot rear, both dovetailed for adjustability or aftermarket upgrades.
This example ships with both flush and extended magazines, giving the buyer flexibility between maximum concealment and increased capacity, all in the original factory case with documentation.
