The robust hammerless box-lock action is built on carbon steel and retains visible case-hardening, highlighting its original factory finish. Stevens designed the Model 311A with fixed chokes and extractor-only operation, eliminating complexity while ensuring consistent shell removal.
Both 28-inch barrels are marked “Selected Forged Steel,” reflecting Savage-Stevens’ focus on durability during this era. The barrels are chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells, allowing use of standard 16 gauge loads without modification.
Walnut furniture features a pistol-grip stock and splinter forend, giving the gun a balanced, classic feel. The 13.25-inch length of pull accommodates a variety of shooters, while the original blued finish on the barrels complements the case-hardened receiver.
Operating controls are straightforward: twin triggers provide independent barrel selection, and a top-tang sliding safety offers intuitive, thumb-ready engagement. A simple front bead sight completes the field-ready setup.
