Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model Two-Tone 1911, .45 ACP, 5” Barrel – 1976 Production
Built in Colt’s U.S. Bicentennial year of 1976, this MK IV/Series 70 Government Model blends collectible pedigree with tasteful custom touches. The factory carbon-steel pistol now wears a bright nickel slide over a matte blued/parkerized frame, creating a distinctive two-tone profile. Inside, the original Series 70 Accurizor collet barrel bushing and pre-Series 80 firing system remain intact, preserving the model’s hallmark accuracy and crisp single-action trigger.

What’s Included
- Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model pistol
- Four 7-round stainless-steel magazines (one Pachmayr-branded; some with polymer base pads)
- One 8-round stainless-steel magazine
This full-size 1911 retains its original 5-inch barrel, Series 70 collet bushing, and spur hammer, delivering the classic shooting feel collectors expect. The pistol’s action is the traditional Browning short-recoil, single-action design with no firing-pin block, giving it the smooth trigger pull that made the Series 70 famous.
The custom bright nickel slide contrasts sharply with the matte blued/parkerized frame, providing both visual appeal and added corrosion resistance on the upper assembly. Vertical rear cocking serrations cut at roughly 19 LPI offer positive slide manipulation without altering the original profile.
An oversize, wide thumb-safety lever has been fitted for easier engagement, while the checkered double-diamond hardwood grips and short solid trigger keep the pistol grounded in classic Government Model ergonomics. Fixed iron sights—ramped front blade and dovetailed square-notch rear—maintain the clean lines of the period.
Weighing roughly 39 ounces unloaded and measuring about 8.5 inches overall, this 1976 Colt remains a balanced shooter. Its custom two-tone finish, collectible production year, and authentic Series 70 internals combine to make it an attractive option for both range use and display.
