Springfield’s Melonite finish covers both the slide and the hammer-forged barrel, adding corrosion resistance and reducing glare. The treatment penetrates the steel rather than sitting on top, helping preserve the pistol’s working surfaces over time.
The striker-fired action uses a short-recoil, locked-breech system. A striker-status indicator at the rear of the slide gives both visual and tactile confirmation of cocked status, while the loaded-chamber indicator provides similar feedback for chamber condition.
Safety is multi-layered: ambidextrous manual thumb safeties, a grip safety, a pivoting trigger blade, and an internal firing-pin block work together without complicating the manual of arms. The ambidextrous magazine release further supports left- or right-handed operation.
