Product Description

Marlin Model 336SC Sporting Carbine, Custom .225 Winchester, 18" Barrel, 1955 Production

This 1955 Marlin Model 336SC Sporting Carbine started life as one of approximately 3,200 factory .219 Zipper rifles produced between 1955 and 1959. It has since been professionally rebored and rechambered to .225 Winchester, giving shooters access to a more readily available cartridge while preserving the carbine’s rare SC configuration. A shortened 18-inch barrel, carved Monte Carlo cheekpiece, and modern sighting upgrades set this full-size lever gun apart for collectors who appreciate tasteful, period-correct customization.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Bore Rifling: Good – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: The metal surfaces display moderate scratching, scuffing, pitting, and blemishing consistent with field use. Wood carries handling marks but remains structurally solid.

    What’s Included

    • Marlin Model 336SC Sporting Carbine chambered in .225 Winchester
    • Receiver-mounted aperture/peep sight
    • Weaver-style one-piece scope rail (installed)

Rechambered to .225 Winchester, this rifle offers improved ammunition availability while retaining the strong Marlin action and smooth cycling that made the original .219 Zipper carbines desirable. The conversion work maintains proper headspace and includes a clean, round 18-inch blued steel barrel with a ramp front sight and brass bead.

The SC (Sporting Carbine) variant features a 2/3-length magazine tube and steel fore-end cap, details unique to this short-run model. Combined with the early “M” serial prefix, this rifle represents pre-Micro-Groove Marlin craftsmanship prized by many collectors.

Custom stock work adds a Monte Carlo cheekpiece and a comfortable pistol-grip wrist, improving cheek weld when using optics on the provided rail. A Pachmayr ventilated recoil pad extends length of pull to 13.5" and softens felt recoil, making the lightweight carbine easy to shoulder.

Sighting options are versatile: the original semi-buckhorn rear sight remains on the barrel, while a receiver-mounted aperture sight and the Weaver-style rail allow rapid transition between iron sights and an optic of your choice.
