Product Description

Winchester Model 42 Standard Grade .410 Bore Pump-Action Shotgun, 26-Inch Full Choke, 1947 Manufacture

Produced in 1947, this Winchester Model 42 represents the highly sought-after pre-64 era of Winchester craftsmanship. Built as a scaled-down companion to the famed Model 12, it is one of only about 165,000 Model 42 shotguns ever made and was the first repeating shotgun engineered specifically for the .410 bore. This example features the desirable 3-inch chamber, a fixed Full choke, and the early production disconnector that allows slam-fire operation—all points that make it stand out to shooters and collectors alike.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Excellent — clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

    What’s Included

    • Winchester Model 42 Standard Grade pump-action shotgun

Built on a carbon-steel receiver and barrel, this Model 42 wears its original Winchester blued finish with only mild, even edge wear. Matching serial numbers on the receiver and barrel extension confirm factory fit and add to its collector appeal.

The 26-inch plain barrel is factory-cut with a fixed Full choke, giving tight patterns ideal for small-game hunting and clays. Its 3-inch chamber maximizes .410 payload options, a feature introduced mid-production and considered the most versatile setup.

This shotgun retains the early, pre-1955 disconnector, enabling slam-fire operation by holding the trigger while cycling the action—a characteristic many enthusiasts specifically seek out.

Walnut furniture includes a pistol-grip stock with a 13.75-inch length of pull and a grooved corn-cob fore-end. Together with the takedown design, the gun balances light and quick, mirroring the handling qualities that made the Model 42 famous.

Front bead sights, a five-round tubular magazine, and hammerless, pump-action reliability round out a package that remains a benchmark for .410 repeaters over seven decades after it left the New Haven factory.
