Century Arms R1A1 Sporter .308 Win Semi-Automatic FN FAL-Pattern Rifle, 19" Barrel, Welded 3-Port Brake, Eight 20-Rd Mags
This Century Arms R1A1 Sporter is a 1990s FN FAL-pattern rifle built on a Hesse cast steel Type-III receiver and chambered in .308 Winchester. The kit-built rifle blends surplus Commonwealth parts with U.S.-made components to satisfy 922(r) regulations and features a permanently attached 3-port muzzle brake installed to meet the 1994–2004 Federal Assault Weapons Ban requirements. Its inch-cut receiver accepts both inch and metric FAL magazines, making it an adaptable option for shooters who already own either style.

What’s Included
- Century Arms R1A1 Sporter rifle
- Eight 20-round surplus steel FAL-pattern magazines
The R1A1 Sporter retains the proven short-stroke gas piston system of the FN FAL and uses an adjustable seven-position gas regulator, allowing the shooter to fine-tune cycling to different loads or environmental conditions.
Its cast steel Type-III inch-cut receiver is roll-marked "Receiver by Hesse US – Assembled by CAI St Alb VT" and mates to surplus Commonwealth pattern parts. While Hesse receivers vary in dimensional accuracy, this example feeds reliably from both inch and metric magazines thanks to its dual-compatible magazine well.
The 19-inch barrel is fitted with a welded 3-port brake that tames recoil while adding minimal length. The brake, installed during the federal ban era, is permanently attached to comply with period regulations.
Black polymer furniture keeps weight manageable and resists weather. The fixed stock provides a 14.5-inch length of pull and ends in a ribbed buttplate with a sling swivel at the toe. Matching polymer bipod-cut handguards and a pistol grip complete the package.
Iron sights consist of a protected post front on the gas block and an aperture rear on a ramp-style base, giving shooters the classic sight picture expected from an FAL platform.
