The discontinued CVA Bobcat offers a lightweight, full-size .50 caliber side-lock design produced in Spain by Ardesa during the 1990s. Its 25-inch blued octagonal barrel, light scroll engraving, and drift-adjustable iron sights give shooters and collectors a straightforward, no-nonsense black-powder rifle that balances easily at roughly six pounds.

The Bobcat was CVA’s entry-level sidelock during the 1990s, marketed for hunters who wanted a simple, reliable muzzleloader without excess weight. This example retains its factory 25-inch carbon-steel octagonal barrel, rated at a 1:48 right-hand twist for patched round-ball or medium conical bullets.
The lock-plate and hammer carry light factory scroll engraving that adds character without affecting function. Both components are Spanish-proof-marked and stamped “BPI CONNECTICUT VALLEY ARMS,” verifying original manufacture for the U.S. market.
Open sights consist of a brass blade front and a drift-adjustable semi-buckhorn rear, giving shooters practical sighting with black powder charges. The hardwood stock features a single transverse wedge key for easy barrel removal and shows a matte stained finish that complements the blued metalwork.
A 14-inch length of pull and roughly six-pound overall weight make the rifle comfortable for extended offhand shooting or field carry. Although production ceased decades ago, spare parts and accessories remain readily available due to the Bobcat’s long presence in the CVA lineup.
