Colt Government Model XSE Series 80 .45 ACP 5-Inch 1911 — Discontinued Full-Size Variant with Magpul Grips
This 2014 Colt Government Model XSE is a full-size Series 80 1911 chambered in .45 ACP. Built on a carbon-steel frame and slide with a matte blued finish, it represents one of Colt’s last XSE Government runs before the line was discontinued in the mid-2010s. Factory Novak three-dot sights, front and rear cocking serrations, and a full-length guide rod give it modern handling, while the installed Magpul MOE polymer grips add a clean, positive purchase.

Colt designated this pistol with part number O1980XSE and placed it in the “FR#####E” serial block, identifying it as an Enhanced/XSE series gun. The model combines traditional 1911 lines with performance-oriented upgrades like a lowered and flared ejection port, skeletonized hammer, and a three-hole aluminum trigger.
Safety is handled by a grip safety, an extended thumb safety, and Colt’s Series 80 firing-pin block. These features allow locked-and-cocked carry while adding an internal safety layer without altering the crisper single-action pull enthusiasts expect.
The 5-inch carbon-steel barrel is paired with a full-length guide rod that aids recoil control and smooth cycling. The bore remains mirror-bright with sharp rifling, supporting both accuracy and longevity.
Factory Novak Low-Mount sights provide a clear three-dot picture, and the front blade is dovetailed for easy replacement if the owner chooses. The aftermarket Magpul MOE grips offer aggressive texturing and a slightly slimmer profile than standard wood panels, giving this Government Model a modern feel.
