The 716i TREAD is SIG Sauer’s lightest .308 rifle to date, delivering AR-10 power in a trim, optics-ready package. Built on hard-coat anodized 7075-T6 receivers and fitted with a free-float 15″ M-LOK handguard, this direct-impingement carbine combines full ambidextrous controls with a factory-installed Matchlite Duo two-stage trigger. A 16″ carbon-steel barrel, suppressor-ready 3-prong flash hider, and SR-25/LR-308 magazine compatibility round out a feature set designed for versatility without excess weight.

At just over eight pounds unloaded, the 716i TREAD trims weight through an aluminum free-float handguard that clamps directly to the upper receiver with an anti-rotation tab borrowed from SIG’s MCX design. The 15″ rail provides continuous Picatinny along the top and ample M-LOK slots for accessories.
The Matchlite Duo two-stage trigger—factory set at approximately 4.5 lb—gives this rifle a crisp, predictable break uncommon in base-model AR-10s. Combined with the 1:10 RH-twist carbon-steel barrel, it helps shooters capitalize on the accuracy potential of 7.62 NATO.
Fully ambidextrous controls include paddle-style magazine releases and a bilateral safety selector, making the rifle immediately usable for left- or right-handed shooters. The collapsible Magpul MOE SL-K stock offers a 13″ length of pull and pairs with a SIG polymer grip for ergonomic control.
As part of SIG’s color-coded TREAD ecosystem, the rifle ships optics-ready and accepts a range of factory accessories—from foregrips to muzzle devices—without modification. The threaded 5/8-24 muzzle is ready for brakes or suppressors, and the 3-prong flash hider keeps signature low until you’re ready to upgrade.
