The Model 172 stands out because pump-action rimfire rifles in .17 HMR are extremely rare. Taurus engineered a smooth, positive stroke that cycles the 10-round tubular magazine reliably while keeping follow-up shots accurate and fast.
A single captive screw at the magazine ring lets the shooter separate the 23.25-inch barrel and magazine tube from the receiver and stock in seconds. This takedown capability simplifies cleaning and makes transport easier without tools.
All major parts are polished blue steel, including the receiver, barrel, and external hammer. The straight-grip walnut-stained hardwood stock pairs with a ribbed corncob fore-end for a traditional look and secure handling. Length of pull is a comfortable 13 inches.
Iron sights consist of a silver-bead front post and an elevator-adjustable rear leaf. Safety is handled by a bolt-mounted slider plus the Taurus Security System keyed hammer lock, allowing secure storage when needed.
