Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Standard Rifle .270 Win. Bolt-Action (1955)
Manufactured in 1955, this Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Standard Rifle pairs the classic controlled-round-feed action with the flat-shooting .270 Winchester cartridge. A 24" Winchester Proof Steel barrel, walnut stock with cut checkering, and an adjustable trigger give the rifle the balanced feel and reliable accuracy that earned the Model 70 its “Rifleman’s Rifle” reputation.

What’s Included
- Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 Standard Rifle chambered in .270 Win. with factory iron sights and installed Pachmayr White Line ventilated recoil pad
This rifle features Winchester’s coveted pre-1964 controlled-round-feed action with a full-length claw extractor, ensuring smooth, positive cycling from the five-round internal magazine. The three-position wing safety allows safe loading and unloading while maintaining bolt control.
The 24" barrel is cut from Winchester Proof Steel and paired with a 1:10" right-hand twist that stabilizes a broad range of .270 Winchester bullet weights. A ramped gold-bead front sight and folding-leaf rear sight provide a clear sight picture; the receiver is drilled and tapped for an optic if desired.
An oil-finished walnut stock displays crisp cut checkering, a straight comb, and a pistol-grip profile that handles recoil comfortably. A period Pachmayr White Line ventilated pad extends length of pull to 13.75" while softening felt recoil.
As a 1955 production rifle, serial 3237xx places it firmly in the era championed by gun writer Jack O’Connor, whose advocacy cemented the .270 Winchester and the Model 70 as an ideal pairing for North American big-game hunting.
