Winchester Model 12 Field Grade 20 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun, 28" Simmons Rib, 1948 Production
This 1948 Winchester Model 12 Field Grade pairs the smooth, reliable “Perfect Repeater” action with a Simmons 50th Anniversary ventilated rib, giving the classic pump gun upgraded sighting and handling. Built on a forged steel receiver and chambered in 20 gauge, it features a 28" Winchester Proof Steel barrel with a fixed FULL choke and a 2 ¾" chamber. What’s Included
- Winchester Model 12 Field Grade 20 Gauge pump-action shotgun with 28" ventilated-rib barrel and fixed FULL choke
Produced in 1948 (serial number range 1148XXX), this shotgun sits within the early post-war run of approximately 82,000 Model 12s made that year. It uses the desirable 14-groove fore-end pattern found only until about 1950.
The Simmons 50th Anniversary rib (marked 1945-1995) is an aftermarket upgrade that lays flat against the Winchester Proof Steel barrel, providing a vented sighting plane capped by a steel bead front sight. The rib enhances target acquisition while preserving the gun’s period character.
Internally, the Model 12’s machined steel action cycles 2 ¾" shells smoothly. Capacity is 6+1, and the internal hammer design keeps the receiver profile streamlined. The takedown feature allows quick separation of the barrel/magazine assembly from the receiver for transport or maintenance.
Handling is aided by the 13.9" length of pull, pistol-grip walnut buttstock, and the fore-end’s deep grooves. Together with the full choke, the 28" barrel offers balanced swing and pattern density well suited to field or clays use.
