The AP-9 Mini is the scarcest production version of A.A. Arms’ blowback 9mm pistol line. Built in the late 1980s–early 1990s, this compact 3-inch-barreled model combines a lightweight polymer frame with a matte grey parkerized steel upper, pre-dating the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. Its short production run and distinctive SMG-inspired profile make it a standout piece for shooters and collectors alike.

The Mini variant trims the standard AP-9’s barrel to 3 inches, producing a noticeably handier profile while retaining the original 30-round magazine pattern shared with the Intratec TEC-9. Fewer Minis were produced than full-size models, and examples like this one—serial number in the 0291xx range—reside firmly within the limited 1988–1994 production window.
A simple blowback action keeps operation straightforward and reliable. The top-mounted, reciprocating charging knob and tubular receiver lend a classic open-bolt SMG aesthetic, even though the pistol fires from a closed bolt for compliance and safety.
The polymer frame was forward-thinking for its era, reducing weight without sacrificing durability. Paired with carbon-steel upper components finished in matte grey parkerizing, the pistol balances corrosion resistance with a utilitarian look.
