Browning Auto-5 Standard-12 Grade I 12 Ga, 27" Fixed Modified Choke, Belgian-Made 1966
This Belgian-made Browning Auto-5 Standard-12 Grade I combines the classic long-recoil action with factory floral scroll engraving and a round-knob walnut stock. Produced in 1966—the final full year before Browning shifted to square-knob stocks—this example features a 27" Special Steel barrel with a fixed Modified choke and the hallmark hump-back receiver profile that extends the sight plane. The serial prefix “6M” confirms its 1966 origin at the FN plant in Liège.

The 27" plain barrel is made from Browning Special Steel and is fitted with a silver bead front sight. Its fixed Modified choke offers balanced pattern density for everything from upland birds to clay targets.
Inside, John Browning’s original long-recoil system allows the barrel and bolt to travel together, reducing felt recoil and ensuring reliable cycling with 2 3/4" shells. A magazine cut-off lever on the left side of the receiver lets the shooter change the chambered shell without cycling rounds from the magazine—handy when switching loads in the field.
The blued steel receiver carries crisp, factory-applied floral scroll engraving on both sides, adding subtle elegance without compromising the workhorse nature of the Auto-5 design. A clear “MADE IN BELGIUM” stamp underscores its FN heritage.
Its oil-finished walnut stock retains the classic round-knob pistol grip and hand-cut checkering, delivering a comfortable 14.5" length of pull and secure handling. Capacity is 4+1 rounds, making it suitable for most hunting regulations and range sessions alike.
