Smith & Wesson launched the M&P15 line in 2006 as its first in-house AR-15 platform, and this SU-prefix example reflects a later production run with incremental refinements.
The 16" 4140 steel barrel features a chrome-lined bore and chamber for enhanced corrosion resistance and easier maintenance. A government profile balances rigidity with weight, while 1/2-28 threads accept common muzzle devices. The 1:9 twist rate stabilizes a wide range of 55- to 69-grain 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington loads.
Its flat-top upper receiver is T-marked for repeatable optic placement and pairs with a fixed A2 front sight post and the included Magpul MBUS folding rear sight. This setup lets shooters run iron sights alone or seamlessly add optics without interference.
A six-position telescoping stock, A2-style pistol grip, and two-piece polymer carbine handguard provide familiar ergonomics and straightforward parts compatibility. The direct-impingement action is fed by standard AR magazines, and one 30-round Magpul PMAG is included.
Constructed from 7075-T6 aluminum with a hard-coat anodized matte black finish, the receiver set delivers mil-spec strength while resisting wear from regular field use.
