Smith & Wesson Model 686-4 .357 Magnum, 6" Stainless L-Frame Revolver
The Model 686-4 is the last pre-MIM, pre-internal-lock iteration of Smith & Wesson’s respected L-frame .357 Magnum line. Built between 1993 and 1997, this six-shot revolver combines a full-lug 6" stainless barrel with a drilled-and-tapped top strap, giving shooters a factory-ready path to optics while retaining the clean lines collectors appreciate.

What’s Included
- Smith & Wesson Model 686-4 revolver
Produced on Smith & Wesson’s robust L-frame, this 686-4 balances duty-grade durability with the controllability of a full-lug 6" barrel. The stainless-steel construction offers corrosion resistance and a consistent matte satin finish that pairs well with the forged external hammer and smooth forged trigger.
This dash-4 engineering change is notable for being the final version made before Smith & Wesson transitioned to MIM small parts and the internal locking system, making it especially attractive to shooters who prefer traditional forged components.
The revolver is drilled and tapped at the factory, allowing quick installation of optics or scope mounts without aftermarket machining. Combined with the adjustable micrometer-click rear sight and pinned ramp front sight, it is ready for precise target or hunting work straight from the box.
A one-piece black Hogue Monogrip carries the S&W logo and promotes consistent hand placement under both double-action and single-action fire. Internally, the 1:18.75 RH twist rate is tailored to stabilize the broad range of .357 Magnum and .38 Special bullet weights favored by enthusiasts.
