Norinco imported the MAK-90 Sporter between 1990 and 1994, making it one of the last Chinese AK-pattern rifles to enter the United States before the ban tightened. This example retains the desirable 1.5 mm receiver, offering added rigidity over the standard AKM thickness.
The 16.25-inch chrome-lined, cold-hammer-forged 4140 steel barrel is valued by collectors and shooters alike for its longevity and corrosion resistance. It remains topped with a TAPCO AK muzzle brake/compensator that tames recoil and muzzle rise.
Modern furniture upgrades include a Magpul Zhukov-S folding/adjustable stock and MOE-AK pistol grip, providing improved ergonomics and length-of-pull adjustability. The Troy Industries modular aluminum handguard accepts M-LOK rail covers (installed) and keeps the barrel cool during prolonged strings of fire.
An Ultimak M1-B gas-tube optic rail replaces the standard upper handguard, allowing a forward-mounted red dot that co-witnesses with the original hooded post front sight and tangent rear leaf. The rifle is 922(r) compliant through the inclusion of multiple U.S.-made parts.
