Remington Sportsman 58 Field Grade 12 Gauge Semi-Automatic Shotgun, 26" Barrel, Gas-Operated, Poly-Choke
The Sportsman 58 was Remington’s first gas-operated shotgun, and this late-production Field Grade example showcases that pioneering design. Chambered in 12 gauge and factory-limited to a three-shot capacity, it features the model’s adjustable gas plug and a roll-engraved hunting scene on the polished blue receiver. An aftermarket Poly-Choke and Pachmayr White Line Deluxe recoil pad add versatility and comfort, making this full-size shotgun a practical field piece with classic 1950s-1960s styling.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good – Shows some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair – Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.
Specific Condition Notes: The shotgun functions properly in all respects. Light pitting is visible across the receiver and barrel, and light rust is present inside the chamber.
What’s Included
- Remington Sportsman 58 Field Grade 12 Gauge shotgun
- Aftermarket Poly-Choke adjustable muzzle device (installed)
- Pachmayr White Line Deluxe recoil pad (installed)
This Sportsman 58 retains the model’s steel receiver with factory roll engraving that depicts dogs flushing upland birds, bordered by scrollwork—a hallmark of the Field Grade.
The 26-inch plain barrel wears a Poly-Choke, giving the shooter on-the-fly choke adjustment while preserving the original fixed FULL choke markings. The single front bead provides a clear sight picture.
Remington’s gas-operated action and adjustable gas plug were forward-thinking in the 1950s, softening recoil and reliably cycling 2 ¾-inch shells. The Sportsman variant’s three-shot capacity meets migratory bird regulations without magazine plugs.
Walnut furniture features factory diamond-pattern cut checkering for a secure grip. The added Pachmayr White Line Deluxe pad shortens length of pull to 13.25 inches and further tames felt recoil.
