Colt Challenger 2nd Series .22 LR, 6.6-Inch Long Barrel, Blued, 1952 Production
This Colt Challenger 2nd Series is a full-size, long-barrel rimfire pistol produced during Colt’s post-war push into the budget sporting market. Built in 1952 and bearing serial number 33663, it represents the rarer 6-inch tapered-barrel configuration that was manufactured in lower numbers than the standard 4.5-inch model. Collectors value the Challenger line for its direct link to the famed Woodsman while retaining unique cost-saving features that set it apart.

What’s Included
- One 10-round steel Colt Woodsman/Challenger magazine with pinned floorplate
Colt produced the Challenger 2nd Series from 1950 to 1955 as a more affordable alternative to the Woodsman. This example keeps the robust carbon-steel construction and quality blued finish while introducing cost-saving fixed sights and a heel magazine release. The manual thumb safety and magazine disconnect safety remain, giving shooters familiar Woodsman-style controls at a lower price point.
The 6.6-inch tapered barrel is the longest offered in the Challenger line. Its extended sight radius aids precision, and the ramped front sight dovetailed to the barrel is paired with a fixed rear notch for a simple, snag-free sight picture. Rear cocking serrations on the slide provide a positive grip when chambering a round.
Walnut checkered grips add a traditional Colt touch and give a solid hold during slow-fire target sessions or field use. The simple blowback action, combined with the Challenger’s well-balanced frame, makes recoil control light and follow-up shots quick.
Rare among its peers and built in early post-WWII Hartford, this 2nd Series long-barrel Challenger offers a desirable blend of Colt craftsmanship, shootability, and collector appeal in a single rimfire package.
