Introduced in 2012, the original M&P Shield was one of the first mass-market micro-compacts chambered for .40 S&W. Its single-stack profile measures under an inch wide, making concealed carry straightforward without compromising on caliber.
This model deletes the manual thumb safety, favoring a streamlined draw and consistent striker-fired trigger pull. Internal safeties stay in place, including a trigger-bar safety and the M&P sear-block system.
The stainless steel slide wears Smith & Wesson’s durable matte black Armornite finish and features wave-pattern rear serrations for confident manipulation. A loaded-chamber inspection port offers quick visual status checks.
The 3.1-inch stainless barrel, paired with the Shield’s embedded steel chassis, keeps recoil manageable while maintaining rigidity for reliable cycling. Fixed 3-dot sights line up quickly for defensive distances.
Sear-deactivation lever allows fieldstripping without pressing the trigger, adding a layer of administrative safety during cleaning or maintenance.
