Smith & Wesson Model 5906 Third-Generation 9mm, Stainless Steel, 4-Inch, 15+1 DA/SA Pistol
The Smith & Wesson Model 5906 represents the final evolution of the company’s double-stack, all-steel service pistols. Built in the late 1990s under a police contract (serial prefix “TEY”), this full-size 9mm combines a durable stainless-steel frame and slide with a proven DA/SA action and three separate safety systems. Its Novak-style low-profile sights, ambidextrous controls, and 15-round magazine capacity made it a mainstay of U.S. law-enforcement agencies before production ended in 1999.

What’s Included
- One 15-round stainless double-stack magazine with orange follower, witness holes, and polymer baseplate
All-steel construction gives the Model 5906 a 38-ounce weight that tames recoil and enhances durability. The stainless frame and slide resist corrosion, making the pistol well suited for hard use and varying climates.
The third-generation design incorporates an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker, a firing-pin plunger safety, and a magazine disconnect safety, providing three independent layers of mechanical protection.
Low-mount dovetailed Novak-style three-dot sights offer a clear sight picture without snagging on holsters or gear, a key advantage for duty carry.
The exposed hammer supports traditional double-action/single-action operation: a smooth double-action first shot followed by lighter single-action follow-up shots. The wrap-around black synthetic grip panel supplies a secure hold and houses the double-stack magazine for a 15+1 capacity.
Discontinued in 1999, the Model 5906 stands as the pinnacle of Smith & Wesson’s metal-frame 9mm service pistols and remains sought after for its robust build, reliable function, and classic law-enforcement pedigree.
