Remington Model 870 Magnum 12 Gauge, 30-Inch Vent-Rib, 1984 Production
Built in 1984, this Remington Model 870 Magnum pairs the company’s classic high-polish blued steel with gloss-finished walnut furniture. Its Magnum-marked receiver accepts 3-inch shells, while the 30-inch vent-rib barrel and fixed Full choke deliver tight, consistent patterns at longer ranges. Pre-Express era fit and finish, combined with proven 870 pump action reliability, make this shotgun a solid choice for hunters and collectors looking for an original 1980s example.

Remington’s Magnum receiver, identified by the “M” serial suffix, gives this 870 the ability to cycle both 2 3/4-inch and 3-inch shells without modification. The steel receiver wears a deep, high-polish blue and carries factory proof marks—including the triangle, “REP” oval, “F,” and “XE”—consistent with mid-1980s Ilion production.
The 30-inch barrel is factory-fitted with a vent rib and a single brass bead sight. A fixed Full choke optimizes the barrel for dense shot patterns, making it well suited for waterfowl, turkey, and other long-range shotgun applications.
Gloss-finished walnut furniture features fleur-de-lis checkering on the stock and a field-style fore-end. The 14-inch length of pull and ventilated recoil pad provide a traditional feel with manageable recoil, while the full-size frame balances the extended barrel.
A 3+1 tubular magazine keeps overall weight down and maintains the slim profile that has long made the 870 a favorite in the field. The smooth, twin-action bars contribute to the model’s reputation for reliable cycling, even with heavy 3-inch magnum loads.
