The 3" hammer-forged steel barrel uses a 1:10 RH twist and receives Springfield’s Melonite treatment for deep corrosion resistance and a slick, low-glare finish.
A dual-captive recoil spring system manages slide velocity for reliable cycling, even with carry-weight ammunition, while keeping felt recoil modest in this sub-compact format.
Controls are straightforward: an ambidextrous push-through magazine release, internal striker block, trigger-blade safety, and a grip safety work together without manual levers. A top-mounted loaded-chamber indicator and cocking indicator pin provide immediate visual and tactile status checks.
The serialized steel locking block forms the heart of the polymer frame, and a dual-slot accessory rail molded into the dust cover accepts compact lights or lasers.
Introduced as the U.S. version of the HS2000, the XD series was named American Rifleman Pistol of the Year in 2003, underscoring its service-grade reliability and design pedigree.
