This 40DS variant fires from the bottom cylinder chamber, lowering the bore axis to curb muzzle rise and felt recoil. The result is faster follow-up shots and a distinct shooting experience compared with traditional revolvers.
A corrosion-resistant hard-chrome/nickel finish covers the steel barrel, steel hexagonal cylinder, and 7075-T6 aluminum frame. The finish pairs with medium walnut grip panels that feature the Chiappa logo, offering a solid feel and controlled handling at an unloaded weight of about 1.87 lb.
The 4-inch barrel length strikes a balance between ballistic performance and compact carry. Chiappa fits the 40DS with a red fiber-optic front blade and a fully adjustable green fiber-optic rear sight for quick sight acquisition in varied lighting.
An integrated three-slot Picatinny rail beneath the barrel accepts lights or lasers without additional adapters. The cylinder is factory-cut for moon clips, and three clips plus a loading tool are provided for smooth .357 Magnum or .38 Special reloads.
Italian CIP proof marks and a 2015 “CN” date code verify origin and manufacture year. The revolver ships in its original black polymer hard case with manual, preserving factory documentation and accessories.
