Product Description

    WW Forsyth 10 Gauge Rotary Under-Lever Hammer Shotgun | Damascus Barrels | c. 1865-1880

This antique side-by-side 10-bore from W.W. Forsyth combines a Jones rotary under-lever action with 29.5-inch Damascus “London Twist” barrels, external hammers, and back-action sidelocks. Light factory scroll engraving, a straight English walnut stock, and a steel butt-plate with a widow’s peak heel add period-correct details collectors look for. Produced in the United Kingdom between 1865 and 1880, this heavy fowling piece is both rare and highly collectible.

    What’s Included

    • WW Forsyth 10 Gauge Rotary Under-Lever Hammer Shotgun

This shotgun uses the Jones rotary under-lever, a robust locking system favored in the mid-19th century for handling heavy fowling loads. The under-lever pivots smoothly, releasing the barrels for loading while keeping the action profile low and strong.

The Damascus barrels feature a distinct London Twist pattern that remains visible beneath the patina, underscoring the craftsmanship of early British gunmaking. Despite age-related wear, the pattern still reads clearly along both tubes.

Back-action sidelocks with external hammers provide positive ignition and allow the slim, straight English grip that many shooters prefer for fast mounting. Each lock bears light scroll engraving executed at the factory, adding understated elegance.

The stock is cut from walnut, checkered at the wrist, and finished in an oil rub that has aged into a rich, mellow tone. A steel butt-plate with a widow’s peak heel aids shoulder placement and further dates the gun to its era.
