Ruger New Model Blackhawk .357 Magnum Revolver with 6.5-Inch Barrel & 2.5× Scope, 1975 Production
Built in 1975, this early Ruger New Model Blackhawk (catalog BN36) combines classic single-action operation with a factory-strong investment-cast frame ready for full-power .357 Magnum loads. The revolver retains its original gloss blued finish and 6.5-inch barrel, yet it has been tastefully customized with a Weaver-style scope base and a long-eye-relief 2.5× pistol scope, giving the shooter fast aim without altering the iron-sight line. An XR-3RED-length grip frame, fluted six-shot cylinder, and Ruger’s transfer-bar safety system highlight a package valued by hunters, silhouette competitors, and Blackhawk enthusiasts alike.

This Blackhawk represents the first generation of Ruger’s New Model series, predating the 1978 barrel warning roll-mark. Collectors appreciate these early guns for their cleaner barrels and historical placement at the start of the transfer-bar era.
The 6.5-inch alloy-steel barrel balances well, delivering full .357 Magnum velocity while still handling smoothly from a holster. A fixed ramped front sight with square Patridge blade remains in place; the rear sight has been removed to accommodate the scope base, lowering the line of sight for quick target acquisition through the optic.
An investment-cast steel frame and fluted cylinder provide the strength that made the Blackhawk famous. The transfer-bar safety and loading-gate interlock allow safe carry of all six chambers—a practical upgrade over earlier “three-click” single actions.
Checkered black synthetic grips offer a secure hold in wet or gloved hands, and the external hammer maintains the classic single-action feel. The aluminum alloy XR-3RED-length grip frame keeps overall weight manageable for field carry.
