DWM P.08 Alphabet Commercial .30 Luger Semi-Auto Pistol, Export (1908–1914), 3.75" Barrel
This DWM P.08 comes from the sought-after Alphabet Commercial series produced for export between 1908 and 1914. Chambered in .30 Luger, it retains its original 95 mm (3.75") barrel, Crown / N nitro proofs, and the required "GERMANY" export stamp. The pistol shows a period refurbishment yet keeps the classic blued finish, checkered walnut grips, and DWM-marked toggle that define commercial Lugers of the early 1900s.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair – showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair – generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.
Rifling: Fair – worn rifling, slight loss of definition.
Specific Condition Notes: Moderate scratching, scuffing, and blemishing are visible on the metal surfaces. Most serialized parts were scrubbed during refurbishment, leaving only the rear toggle numbered. The pistol was refinished for export, as reflected by the commercial proofs and the "GERMANY" import stamp.
What's Included
- One 8-round steel magazine with wood bottom plug (factory DWM style)
The Alphabet Commercial series bridged wartime military production and later civilian demand, making these Lugers distinct among collectors. This pistol’s blank chamber, DWM-monogrammed toggle, and Crown / N proofs confirm its commercial, non-military origin.
Its .30 Luger chambering was favored for target shooting and met many export restrictions of the era, setting it apart from the more common 9 mm service models. The 8+1 capacity remains standard, with the reliable short-recoil toggle-locked, striker-fired action that made the P.08 famous.
Despite evident wear, the pistol retains a uniform blued finish over carbon-steel components, complemented by original checkered walnut grips that provide a secure hold. The stock-lug cut is present, offering compatibility with a shoulder stock should the buyer source one.
Sights remain factory correct: a drift-adjustable front blade and a fixed V-notch rear on the toggle. Together with the crisp trigger characteristic of Lugers, they deliver the precise shooting experience enthusiasts expect from this classic design.
