The 1911 DS Prodigy is Springfield Armory’s first wide-body 1911, released in September 2022. This full-size pistol blends traditional 1911 single-action feel with a doubled-stacked 9 mm magazine, forged steel construction, and the Agency Optic System for plug-and-play red-dot compatibility. A match-grade bull barrel, black Cerakote finish, and modular grip system round out a highly capable, modern fighting pistol.

The forged carbon-steel slide and frame give this Prodigy the durability and tight lock-up buyers expect from a premium 1911, while keeping the MSRP below $1,500. Springfield’s black Cerakote finish protects all external steel surfaces against corrosion and hard use.
The 5-inch match-grade bull barrel is cut from forged stainless steel, features a 1:16 RH twist, and locks directly into the slide without a traditional barrel bushing, enhancing accuracy and recoil control.
Springfield’s Agency Optic System (AOS) uses removable plates to accept today’s most common micro-red-dot footprints. A green fiber-optic front sight and black serrated rear sight provide an immediate, high-contrast sight picture when running irons.
The double-stack architecture offers 17- and 20-round magazines, delivering nearly triple the capacity of a traditional single-stack 1911 while maintaining a familiar grip angle and crisp, single-action trigger press.
A full-length Picatinny rail, skeletonized hammer, aluminum trigger with adjustable over-travel stop, and detachable flared mag-well funnel complete a feature set aimed at duty, competition, or personal-defense roles.
