Rock Island Armory VRPA40 12 Gauge Pump-Action Shotgun, 20" Barrel, 5+1, Matte Black
The VRPA40 brings detachable-magazine convenience to a rugged pump-action platform. Built on a lightweight yet strong 7075-T6 aluminum receiver and paired with a 20" 4140 steel barrel, this shotgun combines modern materials with proven mechanics. Its 3" chamber handles a wide range of 12 ga loads, while the heat-shielded barrel, ghost-ring sights, and BufferBolt recoil-attenuating carrier set it apart in the VR series lineup.

What’s Included
- Rock Island Armory VRPA40 12 Gauge pump-action shotgun
- One 5-round VR-series detachable steel box magazine
- Factory installed IC choke (Beretta/Benelli pattern)
The VRPA40 uses a detachable box magazine system that speeds reloads and keeps ammunition changes simple. The included 5-round magazine feeds 2 ¾" or 3" shells, and the shotgun is fully compatible with optional VR-series 9- and 19-round mags.
A ribbed synthetic forend and textured polymer stock give the shooter positive control, while the vented recoil pad helps manage 12 ga recoil. The 14.5" length of pull fits most shooters right out of the box.
The 20" barrel is threaded for Beretta/Benelli pattern chokes—an IC choke is installed—so tailoring patterns for hunting, competition, or defense is straightforward. A full-length heat shield protects the support hand during extended strings of fire.
Ghost-ring rear and red fiber-optic front sights deliver quick acquisition in varied lighting. The receiver’s optics rail provides an easy upgrade path for red-dot or magnified sights without gunsmithing.
Introduced in 2019, the VRPA40 adds pump-action reliability to Rock Island’s VR lineup, leveraging a BufferBolt carrier to soften recoil and promote smooth cycling even with heavy 3" loads.
