Product Description

    Colt 1848 Dragoon Second Generation C-Series U.S.M.R. .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver – 7.5" Barrel (1976)

This 1976 Colt 1848 Dragoon is a factory-produced, Second-Generation C-Series U.S.M.R. revolver—one of roughly 3,500 made. It carries matching serial number 21518 on all major parts, remains unfired, and features the iconic U.S.M.R. Dragoon-Indian battle scene roll-engraved cylinder. As an authentic Colt Blackpowder Series reproduction assembled under Colt inspection, it qualifies for a Colt archival letter and offers collectors a scarce, as-new example of the legendary Dragoon design.

    Condition

Overall Condition: As-new condition with no signs of prior handling beyond what’s typical from inspection.

Specific Condition Notes: Very light scratching and scuffing from storage wear on the revolver. The mahogany presentation case shows minor surface scratches and scuffs.

Bore Condition: New – as-new bore with no signs of use beyond factory testing.

    What’s Included

    • Colt-branded mahogany presentation case with blue velvet interior
    • Colt “US Military” pattern copper powder flask
    • Colt brass dual-cavity bullet mould
    • Nipple wrench

The C-Series was Colt’s first run of Second-Generation blackpowder revolvers, built in the USA using original-style tooling and finishes. This example retains the period-correct color case-hardened steel frame and blued steel cylinder, both executed to Colt standards.

The 7.5-inch octagonal steel barrel is fitted with fixed iron sights—a dovetail front blade and hammer-notch rear—and is rifled with a 7-groove, right-hand gain twist for authentic period accuracy.

The revolver operates on the original single-action percussion system and holds six rounds of .44 caliber blackpowder ammunition. Smooth walnut grips replicate the feel of the 19th-century U.S. Mounted Rifle models.

Colt’s roll-engraved cylinder art, depicting a Dragoon engagement with Comanche warriors, remains crisp and unmarred, underscoring the gun’s unfired status. Matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, and cylinder confirm its factory-assembled integrity.

With its limited production, flawless bore, and comprehensive factory accessories, this Dragoon stands out as a collectible Colt that bridges historic design and modern craftsmanship.
