Product Description

    Thompson/Center Contender 1st-Generation “Cougar-Logo” .30 Herrett Single-Shot Pistol, 10-Inch Bull Barrel, 1982

This 1982 Thompson/Center Contender pairs the sought-after first-generation “Cougar-logo” frame with a 10-inch bull barrel chambered in .30 Herrett. The frame carries factory scroll engraving and the iconic cougar emblem, while the break-open action accepts Thompson/Center’s interchangeable barrels. A dual-purpose hammer allows quick rimfire or centerfire selection, making the platform versatile for hunting, silhouette competition, or load development.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Rifling Condition: Excellent - Sharp lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: Light scratching, scuffing, and minor blemishes are visible on the high-polish blued surfaces but do not affect function or aesthetics under normal viewing.

    What’s Included

    • Factory Thompson/Center Contender cardboard box
    • Thompson/Center Contender owner's manual
    • "Making Your Contender Perform!" supplemental handbook
    • Weaver-style two-screw scope base (installed)

The .30 Herrett chambering adds historical interest and ballistic performance. Developed to deliver .30-30 capabilities from a 10-inch barrel, it remains a favorite among handloaders who appreciate its efficiency and accuracy.

The blued steel barrel is drilled and tapped and already wears a Weaver-style base, making optic installation straightforward. Iron sights remain intact, featuring a serrated ramp front blade and a fully adjustable rear notch for precise elevation and windage control.

The polished blued frame showcases Thompson/Center’s factory scroll engraving and the circular cougar logo that signifies early Contender production. Serial number 2077xx confirms 1982 manufacture within the desirable first-generation run.

Black rubber finger-groove grips and a matching synthetic forend give a secure, recoil-absorbing hold while maintaining the pistol’s classic silhouette. The break-open action, single-shot capacity, and interchangeable barrel system continue to define the Contender’s reputation for reliability and adaptability.
