Product Description

    FN Model 1930 Short Rifle | 8mm Mauser | Belgian-Made Large-Ring Mauser Action

Built by Fabrique Nationale in the 1930s, this Model 1930 Short Rifle represents FN’s export-focused evolution of the large-ring Mauser system. Chambered in 8mm Mauser and fitted with a forged 23.5-inch barrel, it combines strong Belgian metallurgy with the well-regarded Mauser bolt action. Collector interest is further enhanced by FN Herstal proof marks, a drilled-and-tapped receiver, and the tell-tale ground crest that indicates post-production service use.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair – showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair – generally clean with some residue or smudges and slight corrosion.
Rifling Condition: Fair – worn rifling with slight loss of definition.
Stock Condition: Fair – walnut stock is well worn.
Specific Condition Notes: Metal surfaces display moderate scratching, scuffing, pitting, and blemishing. The receiver crest has been ground and the receiver is drilled and tapped. The stacking swivel has been removed and the cleaning rod is missing.

    What’s Included

    • FN Model 1930 Short Rifle chambered in 8mm Mauser

Fabrique Nationale produced the Model 1930 as a short rifle variant intended for military export contracts. Its 23.5-inch forged steel barrel offers a handier profile than full-length Mausers while retaining the robust large-ring receiver.

The rifle carries FN Herstal “HERSTAL – BELGIQUE” proof marks on the receiver, confirming Belgian manufacture. The receiver crest has been purposely ground—common on rifles that saw extended service or re-issue—and it has been drilled and tapped, allowing easy scope mounting for those who choose to modernize the platform.

Iron sights include an inverted-V front blade protected by sturdy ears and a tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 m, reflecting contemporary military doctrine of the era. An H-style front barrel band with bayonet lug remains in place, though the stacking swivel has been removed.

The walnut stock features a semi-pistol-grip profile, full handguard, and finger grooves, all designed for secure handling. Length of pull measures 13.0 inches, giving most shooters a comfortable shoulder fit.

This rifle retains its blued finish over forged steel components, and the classic Mauser flag safety rounds out the familiar bolt-action controls. With matching period features and unmistakable FN pedigree, it stands as a tangible piece of interwar firearms history.
