SIG Sauer SIG516 Gen 2 Patrol 5.56 NATO Semi-Auto Rifle with Pinned SureFire Brake
The SIG Sauer SIG516 Gen 2 Patrol brings the company’s proven short-stroke piston system to the AR-15 platform, combining military-grade reliability with thoughtful upgrades. This full-size, 5.56 NATO carbine features a chrome-lined, nitride-treated barrel, a factory-installed SureFire dual-port muzzle brake that doubles as a suppressor mount, and an ambidextrous magazine release—key Gen 2 enhancements. Production of the SIG516 ended in 2019, making well-kept examples like this increasingly desirable.

This rifle runs on SIG’s short-stroke push-rod piston with a four-position gas regulator, a system engineered to stay cleaner and cooler than direct-impingement designs. The setup was certified to pass NATO’s rigorous Over-the-Beach test, underscoring its reliability in harsh environments.
The 16-inch barrel wears a pinned SureFire dual-port 5.56 brake/adaptor, extending overall length to a legal 17 inches and providing instant compatibility with SureFire SOCOM suppressors. A 1:7 RH twist rate stabilizes the full range of 5.56 and .223 projectiles.
A free-float quad-rail handguard machined from 6061-T6 aluminum offers ample mounting space for lights, lasers, or bipods, while integral QD sling sockets speed up sling attachment. The upper and lower receivers are forged from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in SIG’s durable black Nitron coating.
The Gen 2 upgrade adds a factory ambidextrous magazine release, an anti-bounce buffer weight, and a supported extractor for added reliability. A six-position collapsible stock and flip-up iron sights complete a ready-to-run package that balances duty-grade performance with growing collector interest.
