Colt AR-15A2 Sporter Lightweight Pre-Ban 5.56 NATO Semi-Automatic Rifle, 16" Chrome-Lined Barrel
This early-1990s Colt AR-15A2 Sporter Lightweight is a true pre-ban “Blue-Label” carbine, built before the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban and falling below the SL027246 cutoff. Colt designated this model R6530, a transitional compliance carbine featuring a threaded muzzle with A2 flash suppressor yet omitting the bayonet lug. The result is a factory-original configuration that reflects a brief moment in Colt’s production history.
The 16" 4150 CMV steel barrel is chrome-lined for durability and corrosion resistance while retaining the slim “pencil” profile that keeps weight down. Coupled with a 1:7 right-hand twist, it stabilizes the full spectrum of contemporary 5.56mm NATO projectiles.
The upper and lower receivers are forged from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in Colt’s grey hard-coat anodizing—an aesthetic detail highly sought after on retro builds. A large front pivot pin and an integral sear-block reflect the company’s factory anti-conversion measures of the era.
Standard A2 adjustable iron sights, a fixed polymer stock with trap-door buttplate, and ribbed round carbine-length handguards complete the classic AR-15 profile. The rifle retains Colt’s proven direct-impingement operating system and standard controls, providing familiar handling in a lightweight package.
