Launched in 2022 as Springfield Armory’s first mass-market double-stack 1911, this full-size pistol combines a forged carbon-steel frame and slide with a modular polymer grip, a match-grade bull barrel, and the Agency Optic System (AOS) that lets you direct-mount several popular micro-red-dot footprints without custom milling. The forged carbon-steel slide wears a matte black Cerakote finish and is cut for the AOS plate system, allowing direct-mount installation of several leading micro-red-dot optics while retaining iron-sight co-witness capability.
A 5.0-inch forged stainless-steel bull barrel is match-grade with a 1:16 RH twist, delivering consistent lock-up and accuracy without the need for a bushing.
The double-stack polymer grip module uses Springfield’s Adaptive Grip Texture for secure purchase under recoil, yet remains slim enough for comfortable carry. Ambidextrous thumb safeties and a grip safety provide familiar 1911 controls.
Capacity is 20 + 1 with the included extended magazine (17 + 1 with the flush-fit), giving the Prodigy a competitive edge in USPSA Limited Optics, 3-Gun Tac Ops, and defensive roles where reloads need to be minimized.
