Product Description

Colt Second Generation Single Action Army .38 Special Revolver – 1957, 4.75" Barrel, Blued/Case-Hardened

Produced in 1957, this early Second-Generation Colt Single Action Army combines a desirable .38 Special chambering with the classic 4.75-inch barrel length. Serial range 17876SA places it within the first two years of post-war SAA production, sought after for its traditional four-click hammer, removable cylinder bushing, and bullseye ejector-rod head. The factory bone-charcoal color case-hardened frame contrasts with high-polish blued steel, creating the look collectors expect from a mid-1950s Colt.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Rifling Condition: Good Rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

The bottom of the frame exhibits noticeable scratches, and the varnished walnut grips show small marks and dents from handling.

    What’s Included

    • Colt Single Action Army Second Generation revolver (.38 Special, 4.75" barrel)

This SAA retains the original four-click action with no transfer-bar conversion, preserving the classic Colt lock-work that many collectors prefer. The bull-nose crown on the carbon-steel barrel protects the rifling, while the fixed blade front sight and V-notch rear groove maintain the traditional sight picture of the Old West revolver.

Second-Generation production in .38 Special was limited, offered from 1956 through roughly 1963, making this caliber notably scarcer than the more common .45 Colt or .357 Magnum versions. The SA suffix in the serial number further identifies it as part of the prized early run before later engineering changes.

The revolver’s color case-hardened frame and hammer display Colt’s characteristic bone-charcoal patterning, complemented by a high-polish blued cylinder, barrel, and grip frame. Varnished walnut grips provide a period-correct finishing touch.
