Product Description

    Savage Model 99E .300 Savage Lever-Action Rifle, 20" Barrel, 1961 Production

Made in 1961, this Savage Model 99E is a full-size, hammerless lever-action chambered in .300 Savage. It retains the classic rotary magazine, lever-boss button safety, and a handy 20-inch barrel, all wrapped in a blued steel package with birch furniture. Collectors and hunters alike value this configuration for its ability to feed spitzer bullets safely while offering a lighter, economy-grade stock that still carries the Model 99’s renowned strength and balance.

Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.

Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

There are a few small handling marks on the birch stock and minor edge wear on the receiver bluing.

    What’s Included

    • Savage Model 99E .300 Savage rifle

Production records place this rifle at serial 1024xxx, confirming 1961 manufacture during a transitional period for the Model 99 line. The 99E was the only post-1960 variant that kept the familiar lever-boss button safety, giving shooters simple, instinctive control while omitting the later tang safety changes.

The internal five-round rotary magazine is a hallmark of the Model 99 design, allowing safe use of pointed spitzer bullets in lever-action form. This engineering feat helped the .300 Savage reach its full ballistic potential without compromising reliability.

Savage kept costs down on the 99E with a straight-grip, uncheckered birch stock finished in a reddish-orange stain. Despite the economy furniture, the rifle retains the robust, hammerless action and steel receiver that made the Model 99 famous. The receiver is factory drilled and tapped for scope mounting, adding versatility for modern optics.

Sighting duties are handled by a ramped bead front sight on a soldered base and a semi-buckhorn elevator leaf rear sight, giving hunters a clear and traditional sight picture. A 13.5-inch length of pull suits most adult shooters, while the 20-inch carbon-steel barrel keeps overall weight and length manageable in the field.
