Smith & Wesson M&P 40 Shield Gen 1 No-Thumb-Safety .40 S&W Micro Pistol – 3.1" Armornite Barrel, 7+1 Capacity
The first-generation M&P 40 Shield remains one of Smith & Wesson’s most compact .40 S&W carry pistols. This no-thumb-safety variant combines a 3.1-inch Armornite-coated stainless barrel, slim 0.95-inch profile, and 19-ounce weight for discreet everyday carry. A reversible mag release, hinged safety trigger, and steel 3-dot sights round out a proven striker-fired design.

This Shield is the original 2012 release, identified by its HTM-prefix serial range and “CAUTION – CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED” slide marking. The Armornite-treated stainless slide resists corrosion while maintaining a low-glare matte black finish.
The striker-fired action features an internal striker block, hinged safety trigger, and a sear-deactivation lever that allows disassembly without pulling the trigger. Combined with the absence of an external thumb safety, it offers a simple, snag-free profile for concealed carry.
The micro-sized polymer frame uses molded stippled panels for a secure grasp despite its slim 0.95-inch width. Rear cocking serrations provide positive slide manipulation, and the reversible magazine release accommodates left- or right-hand users.
Steel 3-dot sights deliver a clear sight picture. The 3.1-inch barrel balances compact length with reliable velocity for the .40 S&W cartridge, while the single-stack magazines keep the grip thin without sacrificing a 7+1 maximum capacity.
