Built for the National Rifle Association’s 100th anniversary, this 1971 Winchester Model 94 NRA Centennial Rifle combines classic lever-action handling with distinctive, factory-applied touches found only on this one-year release. This NRA Centennial Rifle is one of approximately 47,380 Model 94 rifles and muskets produced in 1971 to honor the association’s founding. The rifle variant features a 24-inch Winchester Proof Steel barrel with a 1:12 right-hand twist and a half-length 5-round magazine tube.
The receiver wears factory black chrome—a finish unique to the 1971 NRA models—highlighted by scroll engraving and an oval “NRA 1871-1971” motif. The upper tang is engraved “MODEL 1894 WINCHESTER,” and a Winchester proof mark is present.
Collectors will appreciate the half-octagon/half-round barrel, an uncommon feature on post-1964 Model 94s. The rifle retains its original hooded front post on a ramp and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The receiver is not drilled or tapped for optics, preserving the commemorative integrity.
Furniture consists of straight-grip walnut with a satin finish, smooth fore-end, sling-swivel studs, and a shotgun-style buttplate. A silver-colored NRA medallion is inset into the right side of the stock, further identifying the piece as a limited-edition commemorative.
With its special “NRA” serial prefix (NRA47881), factory packaging, and excellent overall condition, this rifle represents a well-preserved example of Winchester’s centennial tribute.
