Winchester Model 101 Field Grade 12 Gauge Over/Under Shotgun – 30" Full Choke, 1965 Production
Produced in 1965 by Olin-Kodensha in Japan, this Winchester Model 101 Field Grade pairs classic lines with a low-profile locking system and factory foliate scroll engraving. Fixed Full chokes in both 30-inch barrels, the engine-turned monoblock, and a high-polish blue finish give the gun its period-correct look. Collectors value early 101s for their smooth handling and solid build, and this example retains the original single-selective trigger, tang safety, and red ventilated recoil pad.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair – showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good – clean, well-maintained with minor wear marks; moderate lead fouling present.
Specific Condition Notes: Rust, pitting, and finish loss are visible on most metal surfaces. The factory recoil pad is slightly loose. Two small cracks appear in the stock behind the receiver tang, and the front of the trigger guard has a slight twist. Barrel fit remains solid, but the locking lug will require replacement soon. Bottom firing pin shows light pitting; ejectors are correctly timed.
What’s Included
- Winchester Model 101 Field Grade 12 Gauge over/under shotgun (no additional accessories)
Early 1960s Model 101s are known for their slim, lively feel, and this 1965 gun retains that reputation thanks to its neutral cast and grip. The 30-inch barrels with ventilated rib and fixed Full chokes favor long-range upland or waterfowl work, reflecting Winchester’s original field configuration.
Factory foliate scroll engraving on the receiver, top lever, and trigger guard adds understated style without crossing into excess. The high-polish blue finish over steel components matches the period walnut stock, which wears standard side-panel checkering and the original red ventilated Winchester recoil pad.
A single-selective trigger and tang-mounted safety/selector make barrel selection fast and intuitive. Automatic ejectors clear spent shells cleanly, and the engine-turned barrel monoblock showcases the attention to detail typical of early Olin-Kodensha production.
With its low-profile locking system, steel receiver, and 2 ¾" chambers, this full-size Model 101 remains a functional field gun while offering legitimate collector interest as an early Japanese-made Winchester.
