The SSG-97C stands out as Romania’s NATO-caliber answer to the PSL, produced to appeal to Western markets before 2004 import restrictions. Firing the widely available 7.62×51 cartridge, it combines familiar AK-based reliability with precision-oriented features.
A 24.5-inch barrel promotes stability and heat resistance during sustained fire. Factory threading at the muzzle allows easy attachment of brakes or suppressor devices, adding versatility for modern use.
The laminated hardwood thumb-hole stock features a skeleton cutout and spring-loaded butt-plate, creating a solid yet comfortable shooting platform. The clear amber lacquer highlights the grain while protecting the wood from the elements.
This rifle comes equipped with a side-mounted Belarus-made 8×42 illuminated optic, providing clear magnification and a quick-attach interface that preserves the use of the tangent rear sight if the scope is removed. Combined with the hooded post front sight, shooters can transition between glassed and iron sighting options with minimal effort.
Proprietary straight 10-round magazines feed the stamped-steel receiver. Replacements are scarce, and this package includes seven originals—an important advantage for anyone looking to keep the rifle range-ready or preserve it as a complete collectible.
