Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 629-6 Comp Hunter .44 Magnum Revolver – Ported 7.5" Stainless, Early-Run Discontinued Variant
This Performance Center Model 629-6 Comp Hunter is an early-2000s, factory-tuned .44 Magnum built for precise field and silhouette work. A 7.5-inch, full-lug stainless barrel with a two-port compensator and drilled-and-tapped rib sets it apart from standard 629s, while chamfered charge holes, a ball-detent yoke lock-up, and chrome-flashed action parts showcase Performance Center craftsmanship. Discontinued after a short run, Comp Hunter revolvers are increasingly scarce, making this example noteworthy for shooters and collectors alike.
The satin stainless finish, factory-smoothed trigger, and teardrop hammer give the gun a refined feel. Adjustable sights with a pinned orange ramp front and white-outline rear provide a clear sight picture, and an included optic rail lets the user add glass without gunsmithing. The revolver ships in excellent condition with its original box, soft case, spare grips, factory test cartridge, and lock keys—everything needed for a turnkey addition to a high-end Smith & Wesson collection.

Performance Center fit and finish start with the 7.5-inch stainless barrel, which wears an integral two-port compensator to tame .44 Magnum recoil and muzzle rise. The full-lug profile adds forward weight for smoother follow-up shots, and the drilled-and-tapped rib accepts the included optic rail for quick scope or red-dot installation.
The N-frame revolver employs a ball-detent yoke lock-up and chamfered charge holes for fast, positive cylinder alignment and speed-loader use. Inside, a chrome-flashed teardrop hammer and .312-inch smooth trigger are factory-tuned and fitted with an over-travel stop, delivering a clean break in single-action and a consistent double-action pull.
Durable satin stainless steel is used for the frame, barrel, and unfluted cylinder, providing corrosion resistance and a unified appearance. A Hogue rubber Monogrip comes installed for recoil control, while spare laminated grips let the owner tailor feel and aesthetics.
Factory adjustable iron sights combine a pinned orange ramp front with a white-outline micrometer rear, giving a crisp sight picture in varying light. For added security, the revolver includes S&W’s internal key-lock safety, discreetly housed above the cylinder release.
