East German VEB Ernst-Thälmann Pistole M 9x18mm Makarov – 1964 EV-Prefix, High-Polish DDR Blue, C&R Eligible
This 1964 EV-prefix Pistole M represents the peak of East German Makarov production. Built at the VEB Fahrzeug- und Jagdwaffenwerke Ernst-Thälmann plant in Suhl and later imported by Century Arms, it carries the distinctive high-polish blue finish, plum-tinted small parts, and meticulous machining that set DDR pistols apart. Made in Germany and now classified as Curio & Relic, it offers collectors a clean, matching example complete with its factory-numbered magazine.
Condition
Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Good Rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.
The blued surfaces display a few minor handling scuffs and faint blemishes, none of which affect function. The bore is bright with strong, mirror-like walls, reflecting its limited range time.
What’s Included
- 1 × 8-round steel East German magazine electropenciled to match the pistol’s serial
The full-size steel frame houses a fixed 3.68-inch barrel, yielding the inherent accuracy that Makarov fans appreciate. Its double-action/single-action blowback system remains simple, reliable, and easy to maintain.
Factory vertical slide serrations, a heel-type magazine catch, and a slide-mounted safety/decocker reflect the original military configuration. A lanyard loop on the butt underscores its service heritage.
Import markings on the frame read “MADE IN GERMANY 9MM MAK CAL. ST ALB VT,” accompanied by the “K100” inspection cartouche and DDR diamond-in-circle proof. These crisp, unobtrusive stamps confirm legitimate surplus provenance without detracting from the pistol’s presentation.
Black checkered phenolic grips remain sharp and undamaged, offering secure purchase while maintaining the pistol’s period-correct appearance.
