Smith & Wesson SW9VE Sigma Series 9mm, Two-Tone, 4" Barrel, 16+1, Discontinued Full-Size Striker-Fired Pistol
The SW9VE is the value-enhanced variant of Smith & Wesson’s first-generation polymer striker-fired line. Built with a matte stainless slide over a black polymer frame, this full-size Sigma Series pistol offers a 4" stainless barrel, 16-round double-stack capacity, and an integral single-slot accessory rail that predates today’s Picatinny standard. Produced from 1999 to 2012 and now discontinued, the SW9VE remains notable for its role in early U.S. Army contracts supplying Afghan security forces and for laying groundwork that later led to the S&W M&P family.

The SW9VE pairs a stainless slide and barrel with a lightweight polymer frame, creating a durable two-tone sidearm that resists corrosion while keeping carry weight manageable.
An integral single-slot accessory rail is molded into the dust cover. This early S&W design predates modern Picatinny rails yet still accepts many compact lights and lasers, giving the pistol practical upgrade potential.
The striker-fired action uses a consistent trigger with an integrated safety lever, mirroring the operating feel of later duty pistols. Rear cocking serrations provide secure slide manipulation even with gloves.
Smith & Wesson’s 3-dot combat sights—pinned front and drift-adjustable rear—offer a clear sight picture straight from the factory. The 4" stainless barrel delivers reliable 9mm performance, and the bright bore with sharp rifling supports solid accuracy.
As a discontinued model tied to early military contracts and pivotal patent history, this SW9VE represents an interesting bridge between S&W’s Sigma origins and the modern M&P lineage while remaining a fully functional, range-ready handgun.
