Remington Model 31A Standard Grade 12 Ga Pump Shotgun with Lyman Cutts Compensator, 21-Inch Barrel, 2 3/4-Inch Chamber
Early-production Model 31A built in August 1933, this smooth-cycling Remington features a factory 4+1 tubular magazine, a 21-inch takedown barrel, and a professionally installed Lyman Cutts Compensator with FULL choke. The dual-action-bar design earned the Model 31 a reputation for silky pump strokes, and this example retains its original walnut stock and corncob fore-end, now fitted with an aftermarket ventilated recoil pad. Collectors will note matching serial number 77511 on the receiver and barrel extension and an R.E.P. oval proof mark.

What’s Included
- Remington Model 31A 12 Ga shotgun with 21-in barrel
- Lyman Cutts Compensator (installed)
- Aftermarket ventilated recoil pad (installed)
Introduced in 1931, the Model 31 was Remington’s answer to the Winchester Model 12, and its polished action quickly developed a loyal following. This 1933 example predates World War II production changes, showcasing the early side-eject receiver and take-down barrel system that made the platform popular with hunters and law-enforcement agencies.
The 21-inch carbon-steel barrel is fitted with a Lyman Cutts Compensator, a period-correct upgrade that reduces muzzle climb while allowing choke changes. The unit currently wears a FULL choke sleeve and carries a single silver-colored bead at the muzzle for quick alignment.
Walnut furniture aligns with the Standard Grade 31A trim. The grooved corncob fore-end offers positive grasp, while the pistol-grip stock now sports a ventilated recoil pad that brings length of pull to 13.75 inches, adding comfort during extended range sessions.
Marked with Remington’s R.E.P. oval proof, the blued carbon-steel receiver blends classic lines with robust construction. A 4+1 magazine capacity and 2 3/4-inch chambering make this shotgun suitable for most modern target and field loads.
