Winchester Model 1400 L MK II 12 Gauge Semi-Auto Shotgun, 28 in Vent-Rib Barrel, Fixed Modified Choke
This Winchester Model 1400 L MK II is a scarce, lightweight variation of Winchester’s 1970s gas-operated semi-auto line. It features a right-side bolt handle and ejection port—the standard configuration—an aluminum alloy receiver that trims weight, and a 28-inch vent-rib barrel with a fixed Modified choke. Its collectible status comes from limited production—estimated between 1973 and 1977—and the distinctive “N-L” serial prefix and suffix that denote the lightweight 1400L configuration.

What’s Included
- Winchester Model 1400 L MK II 12 Gauge shotgun
Winchester engineered the L MK II to cycle 2 ¾ inch shells through a reliable gas-operated, rotating-bolt action. The familiar right-hand controls make it quick to master for most shooters.
The 28-inch steel barrel carries a vent rib topped with a silver front bead for quick sight alignment. A fixed Modified choke offers versatile patterning for field or clays work.
An aluminum alloy receiver keeps overall weight down, while the blued finish matches the polished steel barrel for a consistent look. The receiver is roll-marked “WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL.”
The checkered walnut stock provides a 14-inch length of pull, a ventilated recoil pad, and a straight comb that aligns naturally with the rib. A cross-bolt safety sits at the rear of the trigger guard.
With a three-round total capacity (2 + 1) and its distinctive “L” lightweight build, this Model 1400 represents a desirable find for Winchester collectors and shooters alike.
