The IJ-70-18A is the commercial export variant of the Soviet Makarov pistol, built at Russia’s Izhevsk Arsenal and imported in the early 1990s by KBI, Inc. This first-run Baikal export retains the robust 27-part PM design, adds a factory micrometer rear sight, and wears a polished blue finish. Collectors prize these A0-prefix pistols for their limited U.S. import window and authentic Russian manufacture.

Built on the original fixed-barrel Makarov architecture, this IJ-70-18A uses a straight-blowback, double-action/single-action system that is simple, reliable, and easy to maintain. The chrome-lined 3.68-inch barrel is pinned to the frame for solid lock-up and consistent accuracy.
The pistol features a polished blue carbon-steel slide and frame, eight rear cocking serrations per side, and a bilateral slide-mounted safety/decocker. A heel magazine release and black checkered polymer grips with the traditional star medallion preserve the classic Soviet ergonomics.
Collectors will note the clear “KBI, INC HBG, PA” import stamp and the desirable A0 serial prefix, marking this example as part of the first major wave of post-Soviet Russian arms exports to the United States. The adjustable micrometer rear sight sets the 18A variant apart from standard military PMs, offering precise point-of-impact control.
