Sig Sauer SIG556R Gen 2 7.62x39 Semi-Automatic Rifle with Folding Stock & 16-Inch Cold-Hammer-Forged Barrel
The SIG556R marries Swiss 550 lineage with the widely available 7.62x39 cartridge, creating a hybrid that feeds from standard AK-47 magazines while retaining SIG’s adjustable, piston-driven action. This Gen 2 example brings upgraded reliability, a cold-hammer-forged and threaded barrel, and a side-folding skeletonized stock that trims overall length to just 26 inches when folded.

What’s Included
- SIG Sauer SIG556R rifle
- One 30-round AK-pattern polymer magazine marked 7.62x39MM
Designed around a two-position adjustable gas piston, the SIG556R runs cleanly and reliably on a wide range of domestic or surplus 7.62x39 ammunition. The non-reciprocating charging handle stays forward during firing, keeping the shooter’s support hand safe and the sight picture stable.
The 16-inch barrel is cold-hammer-forged for longevity and threaded 5/8-24 for easy attachment of muzzle devices or suppressors. A 1:9.5 RH twist stabilizes the full spectrum of 7.62x39 bullet weights.
Accepting standard AK-47/AKM magazines adds logistical convenience and lowers running costs, while the hard-coat anodized aluminum receiver features a full-length Picatinny rail ready for optics. Polymer ribbed handguards keep weight down and stay cool under rapid fire.
The skeletonized, side-folding stock snaps to the right side, reducing overall length to 26 inches for transport or confined-space use. A 13.25-inch length of pull fits most shooters comfortably, and the polymer frame and furniture resist harsh field conditions.
Produced in New Hampshire between 2011 and 2016, the SIG556R enjoyed a comparatively short run, giving this Gen 2 rifle added collector interest alongside its practical versatility.
