Smith & Wesson launched the M&P Shield series in 2012, and the pistol quickly became one of the most popular slim 9mm carry guns on the market, with more than three million units shipped. This example is an early HPP-prefix model built in Springfield, Massachusetts, and reflects the original design without an accessory rail, keeping the profile narrow and snag-free.
The slide and barrel are stainless steel treated with S&W’s Armornite nitrocarburized finish, providing corrosion resistance while maintaining a matte, non-reflective look. Fish-scale rear serrations offer positive purchase when racking the slide.
An aftermarket tritium 3-dot sight set—with an orange photoluminescent ring around the front vial—replaces the stock white-dot sights, giving the shooter faster acquisition in low light. Both front and rear sights are steel and dovetailed for windage adjustment.
This Gen 1 Shield retains the factory manual thumb safety, striker block, and hinged trigger with integral safety tab. The reversible magazine release accommodates left- or right-handed shooters, and the textured polymer frame features an integral palmswell for a secure grip.
